Shadows of the Sea
07:37
|
|||
The seagull spreads its wings
As foam the ocean brings
From realms so far away
Hides lore within the spray
Wide fields that beckon me
The lure of the wide sea
Out of the South it came
The white ship without name
The captain call’d to me
His words i seemed to know
To realms unknown to you
Come with me, southwards go
Often it would pass
The ship in moonlit night
The night i heeded call
It was so very bright
Across the Ocean’s waves
What was and what may be
What secrets there may hide
Within the shadows of the sea
Rosy broke the dawn
Brightly rose the day
Captain, what’s this land
’Tis Zar, he then would say
The land of bygone dreams
And thoughts of beauty passed
Spoke he as we passed by
Terraced beauty vast
Way past the Ocean’s waves
What was and what may be
What beauty there may hide
Within the shadows of the sea
Ever on I wished to sail
Within the bliss of Sona-nyl
I wish’d not to remain
But onwards to press still
Greater secrets are
And greater horrors too
Beyond the furthest waves
My heart called me to go
The seagull spreads its wings
As salt the ocean brings
From realms so far away
Hides lore within the spray
Those fields they beckon me
The lure of the wide sea
Out of the South no more
Comes the white ship to my shore
Beyond the Ocean’s waves
What will and what won’t be
What secrets there may hide
Within the shadows of the sea
Beneath the Ocean’s waves
What was and what will be
What horrors that there hide
Within the shadows of the sea

A Dream Within a Dream
06:30
|
|||
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand—
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep—while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Some Crave
07:38
|
|||
The craving is within
The creature reaching outside.
Seeking to suck in,
Devour through a maw wide.
Slithering it around:
The feeler seeking ever
That very special thing;
Enough there shall be never.
A presence in demand:
The entity that you are.
Manipulate your mind—
The craving them will drive far.
Ever on and on;
Feeding makes them crave more.
Halftruths, or what’s false—
One can never be sure.
Some crave,
They lurk upon your way.
They crave,
Some dreams consist of They.
Loving is a means,
A means to satisfaction.
Friendship with a smell:
A stench of putrefaction.
Tentacles abound;
They have found and bound you.
Bound within a spell.
Arachnid dreamweb holds you.
Some crave,
They lurk upon your way.
They crave,
Some dreams consist of They.
Some will crave your hunger
Some crave alcohol
Some crave you beside them
So they can take their toll
Some will crave your heartache
Some will crave abuse
When they’ve craven everything
You are of no use
The craving’s still within
The creatures reaching outside
Seeking to draw in
Devour through a maw wide
Slithering them around,
The feelers seeking ever
Very precious things,
Enough there shall be never.
Some crave,
they short cut can your way.
They crave;
Some dreams consist of They.
They crave
As ghouls claw your grave.
Some crave
And dreams consist of They.

I am Providence
06:25
|
|||
Howard Philips is my name
An imp of ancient breed
Two hundred years too late I am
Wrought by tainted seed
Mother taught me as a child
How hideous I am
But perchance by writing hand
Redeem myself I can?
People’s gaze I fear by day
Nightgaunts haunt my dreams
Where through shadows I must thread
By Miskatonic streams
Horrid scenes of dread import
Imprinted in my brain
Blood-voice whisper must I then
Like father go insane?
I haunt their tombs, i thread damp soil,
By water and by gambrel roof
I was not made for workman’s toil
Upon these ancient streets by day I lack’d all confidence
In Rhode Island’s Providence.
A woman I was made to wed
She brought me far away
In mongrel-haunted Gotham town
She wish’d for me to stay
Ziggurats the sky there scrape
As in Babylon
Crawling vermin everywhere
Every foul deed done
I turned away, I turned to home
To tombstones and to gambrel roof
Ancestral grounds again to roam
Upon these ancient streets I have found my confidence
My home stands in Providence.
Out of aeons rise my dreams
Older than all names
Tyre and Babylon are young
As are man’s mindframes
Ignorance it is what keeps
Mankind sound and sane
Soon enough is mine to thread
Sweet oblivion’s lane
I cling to stone, I cling to soil
To water and to gambrel roof
I dying cling to writing’ s toil
Upon these andcient streets that emanate my confidence
I am, I am Providence.
